The Algebra of Schubert Calculus ∗
A flexible unified framework for both classical and quantum Schubert calculus is proposed. It is based on a natural combinatorial approach relying on the Hasse-Schmidt extension of a certain family of pairwise commuting endomorphisms of an infinite free Z-module M to its exterior algebra M .
متن کاملEquivariant Quantum Schubert Polynomials
We establish an equivariant quantum Giambelli formula for partial flag varieties. The answer is given in terms of a specialization of universal double Schubert polynomials. Along the way, we give new proofs of the presentation of the equivariant quantum cohomology ring, as well as Graham-positivity of the structure constants in equivariant quantum Schubert calculus.
متن کاملEigenvalues of Products of Unitary Matrices and Quantum Schubert Calculus
We describe the inequalities on the possible eigenvalues of products of unitary matrices in terms of quantum Schubert calculus. Related problems are the existence of flat connections on the punctured two-sphere with prescribed holonomies, and the decomposition of fusion product of representations of SU(n), in the large level limit. In the second part of the paper we investigate how various aspe...
متن کاملDegree Bounds in Quantum Schubert Calculus
Fulton and Woodward [8] have recently identified the smallest degree of q that appears in the expansion of the product of two Schubert classes in the (small) quantum cohomology ring of a Grassmannian. We present a combinatorial proof of this result, and provide an alternative characterization of this smallest degree in terms of the rim hook formula [2] for the quantum product.
متن کاملA Positive Monk Formula in the S1-equivariant Cohomology of Type a Peterson Varieties
Peterson varieties are a special class of Hessenberg varieties that have been extensively studied e.g. by Peterson, Kostant, and Rietsch, in connection with the quantum cohomology of the flag variety. In this manuscript, we develop a generalized Schubert calculus, and in particular a positive Chevalley-Monk formula, for the ordinary and Borel-equivariant cohomology of the Peterson variety Y in ...
